- Retained by Greenberg Traurig LLP, Dallas, Texas, in Whirlpool and Maytag v. Sensata and Texas Instruments, representing the defendant; the matter proceeded to arbitration after submission of the team report.

Conducted research focused on the growth, characterization, and device applications of ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) thin films. Used plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) to grow UNCD films and investigated their structural, morphological, and material properties using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and complementary characterization techniques. Applied UNCD materials to the fabrication and evaluation of field-emission devices and diamond-based diodes.
Research Scholar, Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship Program | Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Research Laboratory, Sensors Directorate
Conducted research on the growth, fabrication, and characterization of electronic materials and semiconductor devices. Deposited barium-strontium titanate (BST, BaSrTiO3) and zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films using pulsed-laser deposition (PLD). Performed electron-beam lithography, photoresist application and stripping, chemical and wet etching, SiO2 and Si3N4 deposition, sputtering, ion implantation, rapid thermal annealing, metallization, passivation, and related process-integration steps. Used probe-station measurements for electrical characterization of MOSFET devices and microscopy-based methods for material and structural characterization.

- Prepared ABET Self Study Report for 2010 visit to the Department of Electrical Engineering, Northern Illinois University.
- Attended 5 days ABET workshop “IDEAL” presented by ABET Executives, 2009.
- Worked on fulfilling ABET 2000 Criteria for the electrical Engineering Department at NIU.
- Attended ABET-2000 workshop and presented the findings to the department and college.
- Developed the assessment process needed for ABET accreditation for the department of Electrical Engineering through the chairmanship of the assessment committee.
- Spearheaded the curriculum changes which provided the flexibility and the depth that helped the department to pass the last ABET accreditation.
- Developed the graduate assessment report for the University several years ago.

ABET evaluators visited the Department of Electrical Engineering at Northern Illinois University in fall 2010.

Dr. Abdel-Motaleb is in charge of ABET visit in 2016. He wrote the self-study report and oversaw all issues related to ABET. This is in addition to directing the Microelectronics Laboratory and the biomedical Engineering programs.
Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering
Oversee faculty development, laboratory development, curriculum development, assessment, recruitment, retention, budget, industrial contacts, purchasing, personnel, tenure and promotion, sabbatical leave, advising, hiring, and running the day-to-day affairs of the department that is composed of 400 students, 17 faculty and Staff.
Director of the Microelectronic Research and Development Laboratory (MRDL)
Manage a multimillion-dollar laboratory, which is composed of 7000 square foot clean room where very advanced design, fabrication, and characterization facility are housed. The facility contains material growth systems, diffusion furnaces, oxidation furnaces, mask generation, photolithography, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), electron beam deposition, ion milling, plasma etching and deposition, sputtering, thick film, packaging, and analytical analysis systems.
Director of the Biomedical Engineering Program
Takes care of recruiting, laboratory development, course development, and interaction with industry. The program has become an independent college program in preparation for transferring it to a separate department.

Leading the University Initiative of Prioritization and reallocation Process
- The University started a major initiative of evaluation of all aspects of the academic and administration activities at the university. This became critical after the realization that NIU can no longer do business the old way. This problem is not unique to NIU, it is common across all academic institutions. The decision was made that NIU cannot balance its budget by shrinking. Instead, it should balance its budget by expanding. The first step is to ensure survival in the near future and build on that to expand in enrollment, research, and services. The university decided to start the process of Prioritization and Reallocation, where I am one of the main architects of the process, as explained below.
- I am one of the most involved members in the Prioritization and Reallocation process. Through the chairmanship of the University Budget, Resource, and Space committee, I am involved in the budget decision for reallocation. Through my membership in the Academic Planning Council (APC), I am involved in the decision about prioritization of the academic units. Through the membership of the Coordinating team, I am involved in setting the rules, standard, and process to conduct the whole process of Prioritization and Reallocation. Through my membership in the data group, I participated in determining the definition of the academic programs and the data required to conduct program evaluation. Through my participation in the Evaluation committee, I am involved in assessing the quality of the process. Through my job as chair, I am in charge of developing a strategic plan for the department.
